In short, Argan oil is considered a lightweight oil.
This is even more apparent when you compare it to heavier oils such as coconut or castor oil (both with their own benefits for hair!).
Whilst being lightweight, Argan oil is still packed with benefits as it is rich in fatty acids (like oleic and linoleic acid), vitamin E, and antioxidants. All of which nourish and restore the scalp and hair without leaving it thick and greasy.
Benefits of Argan Oil Being Lightweight:
- Will not make your hair feel greasy when applied correctly – less is more.
- Can be used daily:
Whilst heavier oils build up quickly resulting in greasiness, Argan oil can be used more often without making your hair feel coated in oil, limp and flat or all clumped together. - Works for those with fine and medium hair types:
Fine hair can really suffer with heavy oils, often looking flat and sparse, Argan oil helps to nourish and shine without the heaviness. - More natural definition:
Lightweight oils really emphasise the definition of your waves, curls, and even natural straightness without changing or disrupting the hair’s natural flow. - Absorbed more easier:
Argan oil actually sinks into the hair shaft instead of just sitting on top like a layer. This means that your hair actually absorbs the nutrients whilst staying hydrated for longer!
When can Argan oil become heavy?
This only happens in the instance where you overapply the oil. Like anything, if you do too much of something, you will end up having the opposite effect! It really is about how much you use, where and why!
If you want a deep treatment, use argan oil overnight, massaging into your scalp. If you just want to rehydrate, whilst getting a shine and soft texture through the day then apply to mid-length to the ends.
